Field trip in the fossil subduction zone in Alpine Corsica
Conducted by Claudio Faccenna (GFZ, Uni Roma3) and Philippe Agard (Sorbonne Université).

The number of participants to the field trip will be limited to 50 people because it is too complicated to manage a larger group in the small roads of Corsica.
Organization Details
Please read the following important details regarding the field trip:
- Indicate your participation in the field trip during pre-registration.
- Participants are responsible for arranging their own accommodation in Bastia for the field trip weekend (Saturday, 24th – Sunday, 25th October).
- Transportation from Cargèse to Bastia will be provided, including a shuttle on Saturday morning and local transport during the field trip.
- Important: Transportation back to Cargèse is not provided. Please consider booking a return flight from Bastia, as the school concludes with the field trip in Bastia.
Field Trip Itinerary
The field trip will take place during the weekend (Saturday, October 24 – Sunday, October 25) following the Cargèse 2026 Summer School. It will focus on key geological features of a fossil subduction system in Cap Corse.
The program includes visits to major outcrops illustrating subduction-related metamorphic rocks, such as eclogites and elements of the mantle wedge. The itinerary will include stops in the Saint-Florent area and extend further north into Cap Corse to reach the most representative geological sites.

Day 1 – Saturday, October 24
Departure from Cargèse at 7:00 AM by shuttle bus
Field activities: approximately 11:00 AM – 6:00 PM
Day 2 – Sunday, October 25
Field activities: approximately 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM in Bastia
After 5:00 PM, participants are responsible for organizing their own return travel. You may either return to Cargèse in order to catch a flight from Ajaccio Airport, or depart directly from Bastia Airport. Please take this into account when booking your flights for the event.
